Imphal, 25 July (HS): In a major crackdown, Manipur police apprehended four rebels of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People's War Group) outfit during a coordinated operation in the Wabagai area of Kakching district.

The arrested individuals include Laishram Nanao Singh (41) of Wabagai Mairengbam Leikai; Mayengbam Shanjit Singh (51) and Khaidem Rajesh Singh (45), both hailing from Wabagai Tera Urak; and Laishram Ranjit Meitei (51) from Yurembam Awang Leikai in Imphal West.

Authorities seized a .32 pistol, four mobile phones, and a COMET 10x50 DPSI binocular during the raid. Officials believe the group was involved in coordinating underground activities in the region.

Meanwhile, security forces continue intensified search operations across vulnerable and fringe zones in Manipur.

On July 24, a separate raid in the Siden area under Churachandpur Police Station led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and explosives.

Among the seized items were one .22 rifle (lacking a magazine), a 9mm carbine with magazine, a 9mm pistol with magazine, six SB rifles, a 12-bore rifle, a single-barrel bolt-action rifle, a modified long-range mortar (Pompi), three live Pompi bombs, two Baofeng radios, a smoke grenade, and assorted ammunition.

According to security officials, these intensified operations are aimed at curbing militant threats and enhancing the safety of sensitive communities across the state.
