Delhi, 25 July (H.S.): The Election Commission of India, under Article 324, is responsible for conducting the Vice Presidential election according to The Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act of 1952 and related rules from 1974.

As per Section 3 of the Act, the Commission, in consultation with the Central Government, appoints a Returning Officer, typically the Secretary General of either Lok Sabha or Rajya Sabha by rotation. For the upcoming Vice-Presidential election in 2025, the Secretary General of Rajya Sabha has been appointed as Returning Officer, following consultation with the Ministry of Law and Justice and consent from the Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha. Additionally, Garima Jain and Vijay Kumar have been appointed as Assistant Returning Officers for the election. A Gazette Notification will be issued accordingly.
