New Delhi, July 25 (H.S.): The central government plans to extend President's rule in Manipur for another six months, with the Rajya Sabha tentatively approving this extension. The proposal will be discussed in the Rajya Sabha soon, though no specific date has been set yet. Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced the resolution, which was accepted.
It states that the President's proclamation under Article 356 concerning Manipur, issued on February 13, 2025, will remain effective for an additional period of six months starting from August 13, 2025. President's rule was initially imposed on February 13, 2005, after the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, amid ongoing unrest and instability in the state.
