Bijnor,
25 July (HS): A gang of kanwariyas erupted when one of their comrades
apparently died while being treated by a local doctor here, according to
officials on Friday. The incident occurred around 7.30 p.m. on Thursday in
Roshanpur village, when Rampal (40), a member of a pilgrim group from Rani Ganj
in Bareilly, became ill. He was transported to the hospital and purportedly
treated by Dr Rishipal, but his health deteriorated and he died soon after,
according to ASP Vinay Singh. The kanwariyas became agitated following Rampal's
death and demanded action against the doctor.
Police intervened later to calm the pilgrims down.
According to the ASP, a case was filed against the doctor following a
complaint from Rampal's brother, Satpal, and the body was sent for a postmortem
to determine the cause of death. The kanwariyas have since resumed their
journey to Haridwar to collect Ganga water, he said.
