Amethi,
25 July (HS): Residents of Nuwawa village here protested with a banner stating
no road, no vote to underscore their long-standing need for better
roads. Due to a lack of action on the issue, the villagers vowed to boycott the
next panchayat and assembly elections. Amit Mishra, who led the protest, stated
that despite more than 70 years of independence, Nuwawa village lacks basic
development. There is no adequate roadway. During the monsoon, the hamlet
becomes inundated, making it difficult to leave our houses. We've constantly brought up the matter with
public representatives and authorities, but no action has been taken, he said. As
a result, the people have chosen to boycott the next panchayat and assembly
elections, he explained.
Sub-divisional
magistrate Ashish Singh verified that residents of Nuwawa village in Amethi
tehsil held a protest and displayed a sign that read no road, no vote. It's not
like there was no road before. The road
was built, however it has deteriorated.
We've heard complaints about this.
The block development officer in Amethi has been asked to take action,
and the problem would be remedied shortly, Singh stated. Panchayat elections
are slated for next year in the state, with state assembly elections in 2027.
