New Delhi, July 24(HS): During the fourth day of the monsoon session, opposition parties protested in the Parliament complex against Bihar's special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list. The demonstration included Sonia Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, alongside opposition MPs who demanded an immediate halt to the SIR process. Priyanka Gandhi claimed that opposition leaders are barred from speaking in Parliament, urging for a discussion with the government. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal accused the ruling party of undermining democracy.
Congress MP Ranjit Ranjan raised concerns about the Election Commission's claims that 95 percent of voters were verified, suggesting discrepancies in the process beginning on July 26. With imminent assembly elections in Bihar, the Election Commission asserts over 90 percent of voters have submitted forms, yet the opposition perceives the process as dubious.
