Delhi, 25 July(HS): PM Modi emphasized the close partnership between India and the Maldives, highlighting their collaboration in infrastructure and capacity-building. He stated that India's commitment to the Maldives encompasses trade, security, and sustainable development, rooted in trust and goodwill. President Muizzu noted that 2023 marks 60 years of diplomatic relations, underscoring their historical ties and shared maritime heritage. He expressed that their connection transcends formal diplomacy, reflecting centuries of trade and cultural exchange.

Key outcomes from PM Modi's visit included a Line of Credit (LoC) agreement worth INR 4,850 crores to assist Maldives, a restructured agreement to reduce annual debt repayments, and the finalization of terms for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA). Additionally, Eight Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) were signed, focusing on fisheries and aquaculture, meteorological cooperation, digital transformation strategies, and recognition of the Indian Pharmacopoeia.

1. Agreement for an LoC of INR 4,850 crores to Maldives.

2. Amendatory Agreement on reducing annual debt repayment obligations of Maldives on Gol-funded LoCs.

3. To launch the India-Maldives Free Trade Agreement (FTA)-Terms of Reference finalized.

4. MoU on cooperation in the field of Fisheries & Aquaculture.

5. MoU between the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Ministry of Earth Sciences and the Maldives Meteorological Services (MMS), Ministry of Tourism and Environment.

6. MoU on cooperation in the field of sharing successful digital solutions implemented at population scale for Digital Transformation between Meity of India and Ministry of Homeland Security and Technology of Maldives .

7. MoU on recognition of Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) by Maldives.

8. Network-to-Network Agreement between India's NPCI International Payment Limited (NIPL) and Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) on UPI in Maldives.

Significant announcements included the joint issuance of a commemorative stamp celebrating six decades of diplomatic relations.

1. Joint issuance of commemorative stamp on 60th anniversary of establishment of India-Maldives diplomatic relations .

Key inaugurations were also noted, including the handover of 3,300 social housing units in Hulhumale, road and drainage system projects in Addu city, and the inauguration of various community development projects.

1. Handing over of 3,300 social housing units in Hulhumale under India's Buyers' Credit facilities.

2. Inauguration of Roads and Drainage system project in Addu city.

3. Inauguration of 6 High Impact Community Development Projects in Maldives.

4. Handing-over of 72 vehicles and other equipment.

5. Handing over of two BHISHM Health Cube sets.

6. Inauguration of the Ministry of Defence Building in Male.

Moreover, the transfer of 72 vehicles and two BHISHM Health Cube sets exemplified India’s ongoing support in healthcare and medical emergencies, alongside the inauguration of the Ministry of Defence Building in Male.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Maldives on Friday, following his visit to the UK. Invited by President Mohamed Muizzu, his trip aligns with the Maldives' 60th Independence Day and the 60th anniversary of India-Maldives diplomatic relations. From July 25 to 26, Modi will be the Guest of Honour at the Independence Day celebrations in Malé, highlighting India's commitment to enhancing bilateral ties.
