Delhi, 24 July (H.S.): Nitin Gupta, IRS (Retd.), took over as Chairperson of the National Financial Reporting Authority (NFRA) on 23rd July 2025. He previously held the position of Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) from June 2022 to June 2024, where he drove initiatives in automation and taxpayer services. His tenure saw the integration of advanced technologies like AI and big data analytics to enhance compliance and transparency, significantly improving the direct tax-to-GDP ratio and tax revenue growth.
Alongside him, Smita Jhingran, IRS(Retd.), former Full-Time Member of NFRA, P. Daniel, IDES (1989) (Retd.), and Sushil Kumar Jaiswal, IA&AS (1993) (Retd.), have also assumed their roles as Full-Time Members of NFRA. Jhingran played a vital role in aligning India’s auditing standards with global practices and strengthened corporate governance during her previous tenure. Prior to NFRA, she was Secretary at the Competition Commission of India.
P. Daniel contributed significantly to the national vigilance agenda during his tenure as Secretary of the Central Vigilance Commission, focusing on preventive measures and transparency in public sectors. Meanwhile, Sushil Kumar Jaiswal, with rich experience in auditing, managed audits at central revenue departments and led significant international audit operations in UN contexts.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs officiated the Oaths of Office and Secrecy for both the Chairperson and the Full-Time Members at a ceremony held on the same day.
