West Bengal, 10 July (H.S.): A woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into the Hooghly River near jetty ghat in Diamond Harbour Municipality area of South 24 Parganas district on Wednesday night.

According to local sources and police, the incident occurred around 9 PM when the woman suddenly jumped into the river. As it was high tide at the time, she was swept away within moments and disappeared beneath the water.

On information, Diamond Harbour police and disaster management team rushed to the spot and launched a search operation in the river. Despite efforts throughout the night, the woman’s body could not be recovered.

As of now, the identity of the woman remains unknown, and the reason behind her suspected suicide is yet to be determined.

Search operations resumed again on Thursday morning.
