Kanpur,
10 July (HS): The tendency of hurling stones on running trains has caused
restless nights for officials, especially in and around Kanpur. Two people have
been detained for allegedly throwing stones at the New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani
Express. The incident, which destroyed
three coaches, happened near Chandari railway station. Authorities are beefing up security and
looking into the suspects' histories for any linkages to other instances. According to a senior Railway Protection
Force (RPF) officer, two individuals were apprehended on Thursday for allegedly
stoning the New Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani Express at Chandari railway station. The incident on Tuesday caused damage to
three of the train's coaches, requiring an immediate inquiry. Following a thorough search, RPF troops
detained Mohd Lateef and Mohd Saeem, who admitted to stone-throwing while
drunk.
Authorities
are currently investigating their criminal backgrounds and any connections to
previous occurrences. In reaction to the incident, security has been increased
at Kanpur Central Railway Station and its surroundings. Officials have reported
an upsurge in stone-throwing incidents along the Kanpur Central to Chandari
line in recent months.
