Malda, 3 June (H.S.): A prisoner of Malda Correctional Home died on Tuesday morning at Malda Medical College and Hospital. The deceased has been identified as Prabir Mandal (21). He was admitted to Malda Medical College Hospital due to physical illness. According to sources in Malda Correctional Home, the prisoner suddenly fell ill in jail on May 31. He was vomiting a lot. He was immediately admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital. Yesterday, i.e. on Monday, he was shifted to CCU when his physical condition deteriorated. However, his life could not be saved. The deceased youth is a resident of Bhutni under Manikchak police station of Malda district.

It is learnt that on the day of Holi, he had a fight with his brother over cattle entering the field. At that time, Prabir Mandal, his mother, father and sister were accused of killing his brother with a sharp weapon. Prabir Mandal's brother was working as the secretary of Hiranandpur Gram Panchayat of Manikchak Panchayat Samiti. In connection with this incident, the police arrested Prabir Mandal along with his parents. Sources said that after spending some time in police custody, the trio were brought to Malda Correctional Home on April 1.
