A lorry loaded with sand crushed a student on National Highway 12 in Dignagar Senpur area of Krishnanagar in Nadia district on Sunday morning. The student died on the spot. After the incident, the surrounding area turned into a battlefield.
The furious mob allegedly set the deadly vehicle on fire. The protesters also clashed with the police. Due to the incident, there was a huge traffic jam on the National Highway.
According to local sources, a class nine student named Riya Vishwas was crossing the road with her father on Sunday morning.
Allegedly, a careless sand-laden lorry, passing through National Highway 12 violating traffic rules, crushed the girl, causing her to die on the spot. The girl's father escaped by jumping into the water. Seeing the accident, the common people of the area rushed towards the spot. Seeing the angry mob, the driver left the lorry and ran away. The mob allegedly set the deadly lorry on fire. On information, the police of Krishnanagar Kotwali police station reached the spot. Initially there was a minor altercation between the police and the angry mob.
The fire brigade which reached the spot extinguished the fire in the truck. The body has been sent for post-mortem. The police is searching for the truck driver.
