New Delhi, June 12 (HS): Retail inflation dropped to 2.82 percent in May, the lowest in six years, down from 3.16 percent in April and 3.34 percent in March 2025. The decline is attributed to falling food prices, particularly for grains and pulses. According to the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation, this marks a 67-month low in retail inflation, with the last comparable rate being in July 2019.

Government actions, such as releasing buffer stocks and simplifying import duties, have contributed to this decrease. The Reserve Bank of India revised its inflation forecast for the 2025-26 financial year from 4 percent to 3.7 percent, and lowered the estimate for the April-June quarter from 3.6 percent to 2.9 percent during its bimonthly monetary policy meeting.
