Murshidabad, 1 June (H.S.): The police has foiled another big conspiracy of arms smuggling. A large quantity of arms and cartridges have been recovered. The recovery of these weapons has created a sensation in Domkal and Berhampur areas of Murshidabad district. On Saturday night, the special squad of Murshidabad police and Sagarpada police team conducted a joint operation. Four arms smugglers were arrested by conducting an operation in Chara Battala area. Domkal SDPO Shubham Bajaj said this in a press conference at Sagarpada police station on Sunday.

The police said that the arrested accused have been identified as Giasuddin Sheikh, resident of Khairtala, Minarul Sheikh, resident of Charkamari, Muklesur Mandal, resident of Ghoshpada and Maruf Sheikh, resident of Katlamari Dihirmath under Raninagar police station. Three ultra-modern 7.62 mm pistols, one pipe gun, six magazines, 15 fresh 7.62 mm cartridges and five fresh three-not-three cartridges have been recovered from the arrested people. Two bikes have also been seized. The police have arrested them and are interrogating them. Efforts are being made to find out from where the weapons were being brought. The arrested people were presented in the Baharampur CJM court on Sunday. An application has been filed by the police for 10 days of police custody.

On the other hand, last night the police of Baharampur police station arrested two youths with five 7 mm pistols, 10 magazines and 25 rounds of cartridges. An accused named Abu Hena lives in Vaishnavnagar in Malda district. The house of another accused named Sheikh Shariful is in Raninagar, Murshidabad. Both the youths were going to Raninagar via Farasdanga area of Baharampur carrying weapons and cartridges. At that time the police detained them and searched them. The weapons were recovered immediately.
