Bahraich,
31 May (HS): Some miscreants reportedly destroyed an idol in a temple in Uttar
Pradesh's Bahraich district on Saturday, police said. According to the
authorities, the event incited animosity among the residents.
Durga
Prasad Tewari, Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural), stated on Saturday
that some miscreants smashed an idol at a temple in Khasa Mohammadpur village,
which is part of the Ramgaon police station area, on Friday night. He claimed that angry people gathered outside
the shrine and chanted slogans.
He
stated that police and administrative authorities arrived at the scene and
assured the people that action would be taken.
The locals then plunged the broken idol in the Saryu River. Tewari
claimed a new idol is being installed there. There is a case open in this
regard.
Tiwari
stated that a sufficient police force has been dispatched in the area, and
certain suspects are being questioned.
According to the ASP, some individuals called for violent protests on social
media in response to the occurrence, thus prohibitory orders have been issued
throughout the district.
DK Srivastava, Mahsi Circle Officer, said in a statement that certain
anti-social elements are reportedly encouraging people's religious emotions via
social media. Such components will be discovered, and a lawsuit against them
will be filed, he stated.
