Chennai, 24 February (H.S.):In a shocking incident, tribals in Coimbatore were forced to carry the body of their deceased relative in a makeshift Doli (stretcher) for 3 kilometers after an ambulance driver refused to ply on the damaged road.
According to reports, the incident occurred in the Kondamankadu area of Coimbatore, where a 55-year-old tribal man had passed away. The family had arranged for an ambulance to transport the body to the funeral site, but the driver refused to take the vehicle on the damaged road, citing safety concerns.
Left with no other option, the tribals were forced to carry the body on a makeshift doli, made of wooden poles and cloth, for 3 kilometers to reach the funeral site.
The incident has sparked outrage among the local residents, who have accused the authorities of neglecting their demands for a proper road. The tribals have been facing difficulties in accessing basic services, including healthcare and education, due to the lack of infrastructure.
