Maha
Kumbh Nagar, 23 Feb (HS): An agricultural information system strengthening
farmer awareness program was organized on the second day of the five-day Virat
Kisan Mela-2025 near the Kalash Dwar in Sector-9 of Mahakumbh Nagar. More than
750 farmers participated in this program, along with officers and employees of
various sections of the Agriculture Department were also present.
The
program was inaugurated by the Deputy Director of Agriculture, Prayagraj by
welcoming the guests. During this, he gave detailed information about the
schemes related to the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, Farm Machinery
Bank, Solar Pump, Namami Gange Project and distribution of seeds on subsidy.
Encouraging
the local culture, folk singer Kanchan Lal Yadav presented the welcome song. He
made the farmers aware and also entertained them by giving information about
the departmental schemes through folk songs.
In
the technical session, scientist Engr. G.P.M. Singh of KVK Naini Prayagraj
explained the importance of agricultural mechanization and said that the use of
machines like tractor, seed drill and harvester is necessary in modern farming.
He said that farmers can get large agricultural equipment through FPO and
custom hiring center. Apart from this, accurate machine selection will increase
employment generation and additional income. He said that it is possible to
increase agricultural production by 34% through mechanization.
Agricultural
scientist Dr. Manish Kesarwani (SHUATS, Naini) highlighted the usefulness of
Shrianna (Jowar, Bajra, Ragi, Kodo etc.) and said that these are not only rich
in nutrition, but are also capable of withstanding the challenges of climate
change. He said that the Government of India had declared millets as
nutritional grains in 2018 and due to India's efforts, the United Nations
declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets. This increased awareness
about Shrianna at the global level and its dishes became popular.
Dr.
Surendra Sonkar, Senior Scientist, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jaunpur, while
emphasizing on soil management and crop rotation, said that with the increase
of organic elements, the fertility of the soil is maintained and production
improves. Dr. Rupesh Singh (KVK Jaunpur) gave technical information on mushroom
cultivation. He shed light on the methods of button mushroom and oyster
mushroom production and encouraged farmers to earn additional income from it. In
the end, Land Conservation Officer, Phulpur Prayagraj, with the permission of
Deputy Director Agriculture, Prayagraj, announced the end of the programme by
thanking all the guests, officers and media cell.
