Chandigarh, 22 February (HS): The farmer organizations agitating at Khanauri and Shambhu border of Punjab will hold talks with the Central Government today on Saturday,February 22. Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan is expected to participate in this meeting.
This will be the sixth round of talks between the Central Government and farmer organizations. Earlier, the fifth round of talks was held in Chandigarh on 14 February, in which Union Minister Prahlad Joshi participated.
The program of the sixth meeting was released on Friday by the farmer organizations and the Central Government. Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Chauhan will chair the meeting. Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian will participate in this meeting on behalf of the Punjab government.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at 6 PM on the evening of February 22 (Saturday) at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration in Chandigarh. However, farm unions had preferred Delhi as the venue for this meeting and future discussions.
Announcing their participation in this meeting, the farmer organizations discussed the agendas to be placed in the meeting on Friday.
On Wednesday, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal released a short video stating that he would participate in the February 22 talks. The schedule of the meeting was communicated in a letter addressed to farmer leaders Jagjit Singh Dallewal and Sarwan Singh Pandher on Wednesday by Union Agriculture Ministry Joint Secretary Purna Chandra Kishan.Abhimanyu Kohad as well as representatives of the United Kisan Morcha will also participate in this meeting.
