Imphal, 21 February (HS): Huge quantity of arms and explosives were recovered during the operations conducted by security forces in various border and sensitive areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur.
Police said on Friday that one SLR (without magazine), one single barrel gun, one locally manufactured Pumpi (pipe bomb launcher), three number 36 hand grenades (without detonator), two Baofeng handsets, eight tear gas smoke shells, three IEDs (about eight kilograms), one bulletproof vest, one pair of jungle boots, and other arms and ammunition were recovered from Singhtom village and adjoining areas under Suganu police station area.
Similarly, one modified 7.62 mm sniper rifle, two nine mm pistols (with two magazines), one SBBL gun, two No. 36 hand grenades, five smoke grenades, one MA-3 rifle (Myanmar made, without magazine) and other explosive materials were seized from Bengun Yangi Sagaisabi area under Mayang Imphal police station area.
Two Pumpi, one AK-47 rifle (with one magazine), one local made pistol (with one magazine), one bolt operated rifle, two grenades, one landmine (7-9 kg), 17 Pumpi bombs, two handmade bombs, 200 grams of PEK explosives and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from Laisabithol area under Jiribam police station area.
Besides, one AK-56 rifle magazine, two bayonets, one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle (with four magazines), one 7.62 mm sniper rifle (with magazine), one .22 rifle (with magazine), 30 AK rifle bullets, 40 INSAS bullets, 20 SLR bullets, five bulletproof jackets and three Baofeng wireless sets along with other military material were seized from Bumpa Khullen in Thoubal Dam police station area.
The security forces have handed over all the seized arms and explosives to the respective police stations for further investigation.
