Imphal, 22 February (HS): After the appeal made by the Governor of Manipur on February 20 to surrender illegal weapons and ammunition, the weapons and related items were handed over to the administration.

Police said on Saturday that a .303 rifle with a magazine, 13 bullets of .303, four bulletproof jackets, five bulletproof plates and four helmets were handed over in Kakching district in front of SP Kakching.

At the same time, a looted tear gas gun was handed over in front of Saparmeina police station in-charge of Kangpokpi district.

At the same time, the weapons recovered by the security forces from Kakching Vari area were handed over to Kakching police. These include one 5.56 mm INSAS rifle, one 5.6 mm caliber rifle, one 12 bore rifle, one 12 bore short gun, one 9 mm pistol, one air pistol, one .303 rifle, four 12 bore single barrel rifles, one 12 bore water cannon, 36 hand grenades, 9 mm (27), 7.62 mm K-47 (92), 7.62 mm CTN (40), 5.56 mm INSAS (45), INSAS 20 KF (13), .303 (65), 12 bore cartridges (30), two 5.56 mm INSAS empty magazines, one .303 empty magazine, 9 mm pistol magazine (Chinese made), two .303 telescope sight, one bipod, FCC (9 mm)- three, .303 bore- five, 7.62 mm CTN- four, 7.62 mm K- two, 5.56 mm INSAS-four), tear smoke shell two, Motorola set 13, charging adapter nine, bayonet one, Khukri one, CPU one, bulletproof jacket (28), bulletproof plate (38), helmet one, black carry bag two, 45 caliber live rounds and Indian currency worth ₹2,50,000.

The surrender of the large number of weapons after the Governor's appeal is being considered an important step towards restoring peace and security in Manipur. The administration has appealed to the people to surrender more weapons.
