18 Feb (HS): The removal of the name of 1965 war hero Abdul Hamid from a local
school sparked outrage in Uttar Pradesh's Ghazipur district. Akhilesh Yadav,
the leader of the Samajwadi Party, denounced the measure, likening it to
renaming the country. Hamid's family expressed concern over the removal, which
school officials blamed to painting. The act sparked widespread outrage,
prompting the school to immediately restore the hero's name.

sacrifices in favor of politically motivated name changes. The removal of the
