New Delhi, February 17 (HS): Eminent sportspersons MC Mary Kom, Avani Lekhara and Suhas Yathiraj participated in the seventh episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Pariksha Pe Charcha program on Monday. They unanimously emphasized that hard work is the key to success and nothing can be achieved through shortcuts.
They talked to the students about goal setting, resilience and stress management through discipline. They also shared personal anecdotes from their lives and told what they have learned from sports in their lives.
Mary Kom told how she challenged the popular belief that boxing is not a women's sport. She challenged social perceptions not only for herself but for women of the entire country. She cited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's advice that one should try to advance oneself. She shared her 20-year journey as a daughter, wife and mother. She also emphasised the importance of hard work and said that dedication and perseverance are the true drivers of success.
Suhas Yathiraj encouraged the students to use the power of the mind to overcome negative emotions like fear. He termed fear as a major obstacle to success. He emphasised that overcoming fear is the only way to perform and excel naturally. Quoting the statement “To shine like the Sun, one must be prepared to burn like the Sun”, he urged the students to accept challenges with perseverance and determination. He also introduced the students to music therapy to infuse positive energy.
Avni Lekhara underlined the importance of skill development and explained how acquiring the right skills boosts confidence and reduces fear. Drawing parallels with sports, she emphasised the importance of rest and recovery in studies and advocated getting adequate sleep before exams to ensure optimal performance. She also guided the students through an activity to boost confidence.
During the session, students asked questions on topics such as convincing parents about career options, developing courage to face challenges and staying focused. Students from Dubai and Qatar also participated and asked questions to the guests.
