Bhubaneswar, 5 December (H.S.): Fourteen out of the 17 government universities in Odisha are currently functioning without regular Vice Chancellors (VCs). This information was shared by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj in a written reply to a question raised by BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy in the State Assembly.

According to the minister, two of these universities have been without regular Vice Chancellors since 2023. The post has remained vacant at Khallikote University since July 2023 and at Shri Jagannath Sanskrit University since October 2023.

Further, Utkal University has been without a VC since October 2024. Gangadhar Meher University and Rama Devi Women’s University have also not had regular Vice Chancellors since October 2024.

The Odiya University has been functioning without a VC since August 2025, while Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University and Fakir Mohan University have had vacant positions since July 2025. The post has been vacant at Vikram Dev University since August 2025 and at Rajendra University and the Law University since April 2025.

Ravenshaw University, one of the state’s premier institutions, has been without a regular Vice Chancellor since March 2025.
