North 24 Paragnas, 5 December (H.S.): As the SIR (Special Information Revision) process rolls out across Bengal, a series of unusual yet deeply emotional incidents have begun to surface. While some individuals are allegedly attempting to add neighbors to voter lists by posing as their fathers, others are being wrongly removed as “deceased” despite being alive. At the same time, heartwarming reunions are also being reported, with long-lost family members returning home after decades. Similar incidents were earlier reported from Bhangar and Tehatta. Now, a touching reunion has surfaced from Habra in North 24 Parganas.
As per information, during the SIR process in Habra, an elderly couple—Prashant Dutta and his wife Santwana Dutta—reunited their only son after 26 years. Their son, Tarun, once ran a paddy trading business. Due to business losses and an inability to repay debts, and fearing shame, he disappeared from home without informing anyone nearly 26 years ago. The couple filed a missing person's complaint, but no trace of him has been found.
When the SIR process began, BLOs went door-to-door distributing enumeration forms. Prashant Dutta submitted forms for himself, his wife, and his son, Tarun.
But on November 29th, when Tapan Dhar, the BLO at booth 259, was mapping the forms on the website, he discovered that Tarun's name had already been mapped to an area in West Medinipur.
Tapan Dhar immediately contacted the West Medinipur BLO and informed him that Tarun was a voter in his area and that his father had submitted all the documents. That same day, the West Medinipur BLO spoke with the Habra BLO, Tarun, and his family to confirm the truth. It was revealed that Tarun was now married in West Medinipur and had a son studying in college.
Tarun's son then took Tarun's number and called his grandfather, Prashant Dutta. Hearing news of their son after so many years brought tears of joy to the elderly couple's eyes.
The couple told their son that they had paid off all his old debts and that he could now return home with peace of mind. The young man also became emotional and expressed his desire to return to his parents. Now, not only the family but also the neighborhood is eagerly awaiting the reunion date between the two families.
The elderly couple said that if the SIR process had not been initiated, they might never have found their son at this late stage of his life. Now, they are eagerly awaiting the return of their son and his family.
