Nadia, 5 December (H.S.): Vigilant soldiers of Banpur Border Outpost of the 32nd Battalion of the BSF, deployed on the India-Bangladesh international border, foiled a major attempt to smuggle gold and arrested an Indian smuggler. Acting on a specific tip-off, the BSF seized 36 gold biscuits, weighing 4234.98 grams and estimated to have a market value of approximately ₹54,737,117. This operation is considered a major setback for cross-border smuggling syndicates.
On December 4th, after receiving specific information, the BSF increased surveillance in Banpur area and laid ambushes along potential smuggling routes. Meanwhile, a suspicious man was spotted travelling along the border road toward Banpur village. An attempt was made to stop him, but he fled. Vigilant soldiers immediately pursued and apprehended him.
During a search of the smuggler, packets containing gold biscuits were found, which were seized on the spot. The arrested smuggler and the seized gold were handed over to the concerned agency for further legal action. This is the third major success of the BSF in curbing smuggling in the South Bengal Frontier this month.
The Public Relations Officer of the BSF South Bengal Frontier commended the action, saying that the Border Security Force personnel are fully committed to preventing illegal activities like smuggling. He appealed to the residents of the border areas to immediately share any information related to gold smuggling with the BSF.
