Guwahati, 05 December (HS): Assam BJP spokesperson Jayanta Kumar Goswami said that the so-called opposition unity led by Gaurav Gogoi is nothing but a political drama that will conclude with the “inevitable entry” of AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal. He claimed that in the 2026 Assembly polls, Congress and AIUDF will eventually fight as allies, reducing Lurinjyoti Gogoi and Akhil Gogoi to “villains” in the script.
He alleged that Congress has scripted a planned drama involving AJP and Raijor Dal, where serious political discussions are absent and irrelevant narratives dominate. He added that internal factionalism—led by Gaurav Gogoi, Debabrata Saikia and Rakibul Hussain—has pushed the party towards depending heavily on AIUDF to secure 22 minority-dominated seats.
Goswami further claimed that Congress and AIUDF aim to install a Bengali-origin Muslim leader as Leader of the Opposition for the first time, calling it a threat to Assam’s cultural identity. He asserted that a genuine Congress-regional alliance is unlikely and said Congress–AIUDF will emerge aggressively in the minority-dominated constituencies in 2026.---------
