Murshidabad, 4 December (H.S.): A major political development unfolded in Murshidabad on Thursday ahead of Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee’s public meeting in Berhampore. As party leaders reached the venue earlier in the day, Bharatpur TMC MLA Humayun Kabir was also present. However, moments later, the party leadership announced his suspension.
TMC leader Firhad Hakim held a press conference on Thursday morning, where he officially announced Humayun Kabir’s suspension from the party. This decision came in the wake of Kabir’s recent controversial remarks regarding the construction of the Babri Masjid in Beldanga.
Upon receiving news of his suspension, Humayun Kabir reacted strongly. He said at the meeting venue that he had been invited to the meeting as an MLA, but left shortly thereafter.
He told the media that he would resign as MLA on Friday or Monday, and would announce his new political party on the 22nd of this month.
I will form a new party to oppose tolabaji and communalism. The Babri Masjid will definitely be built in Beldanga. The foundation stone will be laid on the scheduled date. If anyone has the power, try to stop it.
Humayun Kabir also claimed that he could be harassed, even murdered. He said that if his security is withdrawn, he will approach the high court.
