Bhubaneswar, 4 December (H.S.): Efforts to resolve the prolonged Mahanadi river water dispute are set to take another step forward, as the Joint Technical Committees (JTC) of Odisha and Chhattisgarh will meet again on Friday. The information was presented in the Odisha Assembly on Thursday by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling.

Placing official records before the House, Minister Mahaling, speaking on behalf of Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that this meeting comes after a series of inter-state discussions held over the past four months. He informed that six rounds of JTC meetings have already taken place between the two states.

The upcoming session is expected to focus on reviewing technical submissions, analysing river flow data, and examining compliance issues previously raised by both sides. The minister added that this meeting will also play a key role in preparing for the next hearing of the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal, scheduled for December 20.

The government expressed hope that continued technical dialogue between Odisha and Chhattisgarh will help in achieving meaningful progress toward resolving the long-pending dispute.
