
Bhubaneswar, 4 December (H.S.): The Odisha government has spent ₹83,84,81,000 on publicity and advertisement activities from July 2024 till date, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi informed the State Assembly. He presented the details in response to a question raised by Congress MLA Rama Chandra Kadam.
According to the breakup shared by the Chief Minister, newspapers accounted for the largest share of the expenditure, reaffirming the government’s continued reliance on print media for public outreach. A total of ₹69.78 crore was spent on newspaper advertisements, making it the most significant component of the publicity budget.
Television emerged as the second-most utilised medium, with ₹9.35 crore spent on TV advertisements during the period. Radio publicity cost ₹2.14 crore, while web-based promotional material amounted to ₹1.87 crore, highlighting the increasing relevance of digital platforms in the government’s communication strategy.
Among outdoor promotional methods, expenditure on hoardings and display campaigns stood at ₹39.32 lakh. Additionally, community radio programmes—widely used for disseminating information at the grassroots level—cost the government ₹12.70 lakh.
The distribution of expenditure reflects the government’s multi-platform communication approach, combining traditional channels such as print and television with digital media and community-focused formats to ensure wider and more inclusive outreach across the state.
