Murshidabad, 4 December (H.S.): Just hours after the Trinamool Congress suspended Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir for his religious remarks, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee addressed a public rally at the Baharampur Stadium in Murshidabad district on Thursday. Here, she clearly stated that the people of Murshidabad do not like the politics of violence and incitement.
Notably, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee made this statement after members of the Muslim community in Murshidabad last year set fire to hundreds of homes belonging to the Bengali Hindu community living in their neighborhood. Thousands of residents were forced to seek refuge in surrounding districts. She also claimed that if the SIR process for the voter list had been stopped, the central government would have imposed President's rule.
At the beginning of her speech, Mamata Banerjee stated that the people of this district have always avoided violence. She explained that she personally visited the area after an incident in Dhulian and also calmed potential tensions in Jangipur by phone.
She stated that the Indian Constitution teaches harmony among all religions, and this is the hallmark of Bengal.
Mamata Banerjee said that for the past few days, some people have been spreading lies that the state government is incorrectly registering religious sites, mosques, graveyards, etc. She called this a complete lie.
She said that there are traitors and evildoers in every religion who spread lies to create tension in society. Many people take money to spread lies, and now, with the help of AI, false propaganda is being spread.
The Chief Minister announced that a 660-megawatt supercritical power unit has been completed at the Sagardighi Thermal Power Station in Murshidabad district.
This unit will begin generating power on December 10th.
This project has cost ₹4,567 crore and will provide new electricity to 1.67 million families.
It will also provide direct and indirect employment to over 26,000 people.
Mamata Banerjee said that river erosion is a major problem in Murshidabad and Malda, and that 12,116 bighas of land have been submerged.
She added that the central government was responsible for preventing Ganga erosion, but dredging in the Farakka area was not carried out, nor did the state receive the promised ₹700 crore.
The state government has implemented 17 schemes, spending ₹136 crore on its own.
Mamata Banerjee again cornered the central government on the SIR issue.
She urged people not to be afraid and submit all necessary documents.
She reiterated that neither detention camps nor the NRC will be allowed to be implemented in Bengal. He claimed that if the state had stopped the SIR, the Centre would have imposed President's rule.
