Bhubaneswar, December 4 (HS): The Question Hour in the Odisha Legislative Assembly was disrupted on Thursday due to continuous uproar by Congress MLAs. Despite the House functioning smoothly for the past six days, today’s proceedings were halted following persistent protests by the Opposition.
The session commenced at the scheduled time of 10:30 a.m., with Speaker Surama Padhy initiating the Question Hour. She called upon Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling to respond to a question raised by the Khordha MLA. The minister began delivering his reply as directed.
However, Congress Legislature Party leader Ram Chandra Kadam stood up from his seat and strongly objected to the Speaker’s refusal to allow a resolution he had moved. Following this, Congress members trooped into the Well of the House, shouting slogans in protest.
The Speaker repeatedly urged the protesting MLAs to return to their seats and allow the House to function. Despite her appeals, the ruckus continued, disrupting the Question Hour proceedings.
As the uproar intensified and no order could be restored, the Speaker adjourned the House from 10:46 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
The ongoing Winter Session has witnessed several such heated exchanges, but today’s disruption marked one of the most significant interruptions to the Question Hour this term.
