Asansol, 4 December (H.S.): A sudden inspection by BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul at Damra Ghat, located in Asansol South police station area, triggered widespread commotion on Thursday morning. As soon as the MLA reached the sand ghat, workers hurriedly switched off their machines and fled the spot, leading to chaos across the area.

During the inspection, Agnimitra Paul made serious allegations, stating that she had informed the administration several times, but despite this, no official had arrived at the scene. She said, Look at the kind of nexus that exists between the state government, the administration, and the sand mafia. They are jointly protecting sand theft. Large dumpers are leaving here illegally loaded every day, but the government is taking no action.

She also said that the entire illegal activity being carried out at the ghat, in connivance with the Trinamool Congress and the sand mafia, is now out in the open.

Agnimitra Paul warned that if necessary, she would also gherao the police station and block roads, demanding the arrest of the mafia and officials involved in the illegal trade.

Her surprise visit has created a stir in Damra Ghat and surrounding areas. Locals are hoping that the administration will now take strict action against illegal sand mining.
