Kolkata, 31 December (H.S.): A political storm has erupted once again in West Bengal over the issue of women's safety. Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Leader of Opposition in the state assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, shared a video on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, levelling serious allegations against the Mamata Banerjee government.

In his post, Suvendu Adhikari claimed that the visuals emerging from Uttar Bhangnamari village in Basanti block of Canning subdivision in South 24 Parganas district are deeply disturbing. He alleged that, according to the complainant, Jalil Lasker, Munna Lasker, Arif Lasker, and others brutally assaulted the woman and her family members. Adhikari stated that the entire incident took place in broad daylight and the assault can be clearly seen in the video.

The BJP leader questioned how, regardless of the nature of the dispute, beating women with bamboo sticks and large rods is a grave crime, and it is shocking that the accused show no fear of the law. He alleged that the attackers are confident of impunity due to their alleged connections with the ruling party.

In his statement, Suvendu Adhikari said that no woman is safe in West Bengal and termed the state government an anti-women government. He called for the removal of this government to ensure the safety of women.

The BJP leader has also demanded intervention from the National Commission for Women in this matter.
