
Tamulpur (Assam), 31 December (HS): Two people, including a forest department employee, were killed on the spot after a wild elephant attacked them in the Khairani area of Tamulpur district.
According to police, the incident occurred when a wild elephant, believed to have strayed into the Reiyasi area of Khairani in search of food, launched an attack, resulting in the immediate death of the two victims.
The deceased have been identified as forest worker Sanju Islari and a local resident, Tapan Timsinai. Upon receiving information, teams from Kumarikata police station and the forest department rushed to the spot. Police recovered the bodies and sent them to a hospital for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, local residents expressed strong resentment against the forest department, alleging negligence. They claimed that the tragedy could have been averted had the forest department acted in time to drive the wild elephant back into the forest. Police have registered an FIR in connection with the incident and are investigating the matter.
