Guwahati, 31 December (HS): Guwahati’s Basistha Police have sent three youths, found consuming drugs, to a rehabilitation centre and arrested one drug peddler during a crackdown in the Khanapara area.

Police said a team from Basistha Police Station conducted a search operation in Khanapara based on specific intelligence inputs, during which three drug users and one peddler were taken into custody. The three youths were subsequently sent to a rehabilitation centre for de-addiction and counselling.

In a follow-up operation, police arrested a notorious drug peddler identified as Rahul Baruah alias Prabin (32) from Khanapara under Ri-Bhoi district of Meghalaya. During the search, police recovered and seized 28.36 grams of heroin packed in two tobacco containers, along with 20 empty plastic vials, from his possession.

A case has been registered under the NDPS Act in connection with the seizure and further legal action is underway, police added.----------
