Kolkata, 3 December (H.S.):

A fresh controversy has erupted in West Bengal after Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Humayun Kabir was accused of repeatedly stoking communal tension and using inflammatory language against the police and administration. The allegations were levelled by Sourish Mukherjee, spokesperson of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), who demanded stern action against the legislator.

In a series of posts on social media on Tuesday, Mukherjee claimed that the MLA had been “trying to incite planned violence in the state for the past month” and had openly issued provocative remarks targeting government officials. He further alleged that Kabir recently stated that National Highway 12 in Murshidabad would be ‘hijacked’ by members of the Muslim community on December 6.

Mukherjee questioned the silence of the administration and the ruling party, saying,

“Had any leader from the majority community made such a statement, would he have been allowed to roam freely?”

The VHP leader urged the Superintendent of Police in Behrampore to initiate immediate and strict action.

Earlier on Monday, Mukherjee had tagged Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose on social media expressing concern. He later claimed that the Governor had issued directions for a “precautionary arrest” of Humayun Kabir, calling it an important step for ensuring the safety of Hindus in the state.

However, there has been no official response from the West Bengal government or the Trinamool Congress on the allegations so far.
