North Dinajpur, 3 December (H.S.): A conflict broke out between two parties over the construction of a toilet on disputed land in Mulukdangi area under Chopra police station in North Dinajpur district on Wednesday. Ten people from both sides were injured in the incident, while the police detained four.
According to local sources, the land dispute between the families of Rezaul Haq and Dhanbar Ali Rahman had been ongoing for a long time. The matter had been discussed in several panchayat-level reconciliation meetings, but no resolution was reached. On Wednesday, when one party began constructing a toilet on the land, the other party objected, leading to a clash. The situation quickly escalated. There were incidents of vandalism, stone-pelting, and arson between the two parties. A pile of paddy caught fire, causing widespread panic in the area. Ten people from both sides were injured in the stone-pelting and sharp-edged weapon attacks and were taken to Dalua Block Health Center.
Dhanbar Ali Rahman alleged that his family purchased the land, but Rezaul Haq's family claimed it as their own. Rezaul Haq's family claimed that the land is still under dispute, and despite this, Dhanbar Ali's men arrived to build a toilet, leading to a fight.
On information, the police arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control. The fire was brought under control before the fire brigade arrived. The police have detained four people involved in the incident and are investigating the entire matter.
