Tamil Nadu BJP Chief Mocks Sengottaiyan's Move to Vijay's TVK

Chennai, 3 December (H.S.) : The political landscape in Tamil Nadu saw sharp commentary from State BJP President Nainar Nagendran following the defection of former minister K.A. Sengottaiyan to actor-politician Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party.

Nagendran likened Sengottaiyan’s move to Dhuryodhana joining the wrong team, asserting that it would only result in defeat and would not alter the ground political equations. The BJP leader dismissed the relevance of TVK by pointing out that the party currently holds not even a councillor or an MLA.

Nagendran expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would form the next government in the state, claiming that there has been a lot of change in people's minds and predicting a political shift in Tamil Nadu akin to what was seen in Bihar.

Sengottaiyan, a long-time member of the AIADMK, formally resigned as an MLA on November 26, 2025, just days after being removed from his basic party cadre post. He formally joined the fledgling TVK on November 27, with Vijay presiding over the induction ceremony at the party headquarters in Chennai.

After joining, Sengottaiyan spoke about the current political scenario, claiming that the DMK and AIADMK are not different and are travelling together and reflecting on the split within the AIADMK following the death of J. Jayalalithaa.
