Kolkata, 3 December (H.S.): On Wednesday, on the occasion of International Day of Persons with Disabilities, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee issued a message on X (formerly Twitter) reiterating her government's commitment to the disabled. She stated that the state government is strengthening comprehensive institutional arrangements to empower persons with disabilities from birth to life.

The Chief Minister said that the government is screening newborns to detect potential malformations and developmental delays at an early stage, enabling timely treatment and corrective measures. She added that special schools are being operated in the state, and all schools provide specialized education for children with disabilities.

Mamata Banerjee also mentioned that children and youth with disabilities are being provided skill training to enable them to earn respectable livelihoods. Reservations in government jobs are also being provided to ensure they can lead self-reliant and dignified lives.

According to the Chief Minister, the West Bengal government has created a robust social security system for persons with disabilities through schemes such as human pension, scholarships, artificial limb distribution, and healthcare services.

Concluding her message, Mamata Banerjee said that every person in society, regardless of circumstances, has the right to live with equal opportunities and dignity, and that everyone should work together to build an inclusive society.

She concluded her message with Jai Hind, Jai Bangla.
