Kolkata, 3 December (H.S.):
In a major development for India’s tourism sector, the Indo International Tourism Chamber of Commerce (IITCC) was officially launched in Kolkata on Wednesday. This is the country’s first and only chamber dedicated exclusively to the travel and tourism industry. The initiative is being seen as a significant step toward creating a structured, unified and globally connected ecosystem for tourism professionals across India. The official website of IITCC is www.iitcc.org.in.
The IITCC aims to bring greater organisation, representation and international-standard practices to India’s tourism landscape. The chamber seeks to open new opportunities and promote sustainable growth for stakeholders across the sector, including travel companies, hoteliers, destination managers, event planners, tour operators and allied services.
Speaking at the launch event, IITCC founder-president Abhishek Chaudhuri said that India is one of the world’s most powerful tourism destinations, yet the industry has long lacked a dedicated body to represent its interests. He said the IITCC would fill this longstanding gap, empower tourism professionals and help position India more prominently on the global tourism map.
Chaudhuri added that IITCC will represent the industry’s concerns at national and international levels, build bridges between governments and global tourism boards, and introduce skill development and certification programmes to strengthen the sector. Tourism, he said, is not just an economic driver but also a key contributor to employment, cultural preservation, infrastructure growth and regional development.
He further stated that IITCC aims to create a strong ecosystem that supports sustainable tourism, enhances international collaboration and benefits local communities across the country.
