Bareilly, 3 Dec (HS): The bail petitions of three suspects in connection with
the violence that erupted in the city on September 26 following a dispute over
posters tied to the 'I Love Muhammad' campaign were denied by a court here,
officials informed on Wednesday. Additional District and Sessions Judge Amrita
Shukla heard separate hearings against the three accused on Tuesday, according
to Mahesh Singh Yadav, Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC).
These included a case filed at the Kotwali police station
against Munir Idrisi of Mohalla Biharipur Memran, two cases registered at the
Cantt and Kotwali police stations against Afzal Beg of Mohalla Biharipur Minar
Masjid, and one case registered at the Kotwali police station against Farhat
Khan of Faik Enclave. According to Yadav, the applications were submitted
through their attorneys on Monday.
Yadav further stated that on Tuesday, ten additional suspects
applied for bail, but their petitions were not heard. On September 26, violence
occurred in Bareilly following a quarrel over 'I Love Muhammad' posters. During
demonstrations following Friday prayers, police attempted to stop a mob near
the Khaleel trisection, and stones were thrown at cops, who used batons to
manage the situation. A police investigation revealed that several leaders of
the Ittehad-e-Millat Council (IMC), including its president Tauqueer Raza Khan,
reportedly planned to provoke violence under the cover of protests.
