Haridwar, 3 December (H.S.): The ashes of legendary Bollywood actor Dharmendra, affectionately known as the industry's He-Man, were immersed in the Ganga River on Wednesday morning at a private ghat behind Pilibhit Hotel in Haridwar's Shravannath Nagar, conducted with full Vedic rites by his family including sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol.
The family arrived in Haridwar on Tuesday afternoon but postponed the immersion until Wednesday around 11 AM, with Sunny's son Karan Deol performing the key rituals; the entire event remained strictly confidential, shielding it from media and fans who gathered expecting it at the traditional Har Ki Pauri.
Ganga Sabha president Nitin Gautam expressed disappointment over the choice of a general ghat instead of the scriptural Har Ki Pauri, noting Haridwar's sanctity for Hindus while respecting family privacy; the Deol family departed for the airport immediately after, following Dharmendra's passing on November 24 at age 89 in Mumbai.
