Lucknow, 3 Dec (HS): BSP President Mayawati
announced on Wednesday that she will no longer attend significant memorial
sites devoted to key social reformers on their birth and death anniversaries,
citing public discomfort owing to security precautions made for her.
In a post on X, Mayawati stated that throughout the four terms of BSP control
in Uttar Pradesh, the government honored great social reformers and symbols
such as Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj, Sree Narayana Guru,
Dr. B R Ambedkar, and Kanshi Ram, who were frequently overlooked by casteist
governments. She stated that the BSP
government launched massive social initiatives in their honor, as well as grand
memorials, parks, and monuments in Lucknow and Gautam Buddh Nagar, which have
now become pilgrimage places for their supporters, attracting big crowds on
their anniversaries.
Mayawati stated that her
personal trips to these venues frequently caused annoyance to citizens due to
excessive security deployment. According to experience, the security
preparations made during my visit make it difficult for people since they are
halted far from the main site until I leave, she said. In light of this, the
BSP chief stated that she will henceforth pay tribute to these icons from her
home or at the party office rather than visiting the memorials. She stated that
on the occasion of Dr. BR Ambedkar's death anniversary on December 6, party
workers and fans across Uttar Pradesh (except western UP) will converge in big
numbers at the Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Samajik Parivartan Sthal in Lucknow. While
those from western Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Uttarakhand would pay tribute at
the Rashtriya Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida.
She also stated that they
will commit to continue Ambedkar's vision of social equality and self-respect,
allowing the BSP to gain power and progress the movement led by these legends.
