Bareilly, 3 Dec (HS): In Bareilly, demolition operations are underway for the
second day at the marriage halls of SP leaders Sarfaraz Wali Khan and Rashid
Khan. The BDA (Bareilly Development Authority) resumed the action on Wednesday
morning. Since 11:33 am, two bulldozers have been working to demolish the
marriage halls. The demolition operation is being carried out under the
supervision of Magistrate Ramjanm Yadav, BDA Joint Secretary Deepak Kumar, and
CO City III Pankaj Kumar. A heavy police force is also present at the scene.
Sarfaraz Wali Khan is said to be close to former state minister Azam Khan and
IMC chief Maulana Tauqeer Raza. During the first day of the action on Tuesday, women
from Sarfaraz and Rashid's families protested. Pappu and Asif's sons repeatedly
told the police that their families have no connection whatsoever with Azam
Khan and Maulana Tauqeer Raza. Despite this, the BDA is using bulldozers to
demolish their marriage hall and the house above it, linking their families to
these individuals. However, before the start of the second day's proceedings,
no protest was seen from the concerned family members.
The police warned the family members that if they do anything
wrong it will not be good: The police, taking more precautions on the second
day as compared to the action of the first day, have deployed women police
force on the roof of Achhe Miyan's house, right in front of Sarfaraz Wali
Khan's wedding house. The family members and relatives standing in large
numbers at the gate of the house have been instructed to stay inside the house.
Along with this, CO City III has also warned the family members that if they do
anything wrong it will not be good. ATM City Saurabh Dubey and SP City Manush
Pareek reached the spot at 11:40.
Notice was issued 14 years ago: Implementing the order of
demolition of the marriage hall Aiwan-e-Farhat and Good Marriage Hall located
at Sufi Tola 14 years ago, demolition action was taken on Tuesday. Through this
action, BDA has given the message of strict action. Interestingly, demolition
order was issued on 12 October 2011. 14 years, one month and 12 days after the
order, on 24 November 2025, BDA Secretary Vandita Srivastava issued a notice to
Sarfaraz Wali Khan and Rashid Khan and his brothers Naseem and Asif to vacate
the respective building sites. After this, demolition action was started on
Tuesday.
When Azam Khan was the chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Haj
Committee, Sarfaraz was a member. Sarfaraz's political influence can be gauged
from the fact that in 2014, the then Samajwadi Party government withdrew two
cases of electricity theft, assault, and death threats registered at the
Baradari police station. Thanks to Sarfaraz, his neighbour Rashid Khan's
illegal construction also escaped action. In 2017, when the state government
changed and the BJP came to power, the demolition orders for Sarfaraz and
Rashid Khan's illegal construction remained buried in files.
Action taken against illegal construction after the riot: A
riot erupted in the city on September 26, 2025. Following this, legal action
was taken against Maulana Tauqeer Raza Khan and his associates, as well as
against their illegal construction. Meanwhile, BDA Vice President Dr.
Manikandan A. stated that legal action was being taken after adequate time was
provided for hearings and evidence presentation.
