Guwahati, 03 December (HS):
Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday distributes appointment letters to 5,818 candidates in Police and Home Department. CM calling it a proud milestone in the State’s journey towards a stronger and more secure Assam. He congratulated the newly inducted youth and wished them success as they begin their service to the State.
With the latest appointments, the total number of government jobs issued on a merit basis since 2021 has risen to 1,41,194, which the Chief Minister described as a testament to the government’s commitment to transparency, efficiency and empowerment of Assam’s youth.
Dr Sarma said that the new recruits would further enhance the strength and people-friendly character of the Assam Police. More job opportunities for the youth would be opened soon, he added.
The Chief Minister asserted that the duty of the police is to act against criminals, not to trouble the poor. He warned that those officials who indulge in bribery—even through digital platforms like GPay—would face strict action: “We will reach the homes of those who take bribes.”
He further remarked that in today’s Assam, children of ministers or MLAs do not get jobs automatically; instead, opportunities are earned by meritorious youth from poor and humble families.
Speaking on other issues, Dr Sarma commented on the State government’s assistance under the Arunodoi gas cylinder scheme and expressed disappointment over the Congress party’s strong objection in the Assembly during the discussion on the report related to the demand for Scheduled Tribe status for six communities.
He also criticised the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president for extending Assam Divas greetings using a copied post and remembering Lachit Divas only at the end of the day, calling it “shameful.”---------------
