Guwahati, 25 December (HS): Police have arrested a youth from Darang district for allegedly supporting the killing and burning of a Hindu youth in Bangladesh. The accused has been identified as Billal Ali.

According to police sources, Billal Ali had openly expressed support for the brutal incident through social media posts, which triggered public outrage. Acting on the matter, the police initiated an inquiry and subsequently took him into custody.

Officials said the arrest was made to prevent any attempt at disturbing communal harmony and law and order in the state. The accused is being interrogated further and legal action has been initiated under relevant sections of the law.

Police have reiterated their warning that strict action will be taken against anyone found promoting violence, hatred or communal unrest, either online or offline.---------------
