
Katwa, 25 December (H.S.): The mysterious disappearance of a Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Katwa, West Bengal, has caused a stir in the area. As per information, Amit Kumar Mandal, a resident of Bikihat area under Khajurdihi Panchayat in Katwa-1 block, has been missing for the past three days. He is a teacher at Uddharanpur Primary School in Ketugram and was working as a BLO for booth number 23 in Katwa.
According to his family, Amit Kumar Mandal returned home around 11 am on Tuesday after shopping at the market. He then said he was going to a meeting and left the house. When he did not return home by late evening, his family started searching for him, but found no trace. Surprisingly, his mobile phone, BLO identity card, and important documents related to the SIR were found at home.
Amit's brother, Abhijit Mandal, said that he had been under considerable pressure recently due to work related to the SIR. He said, “The hearing for voters is scheduled to begin on Saturday. The presence of the BLO is mandatory at this hearing. My brother's disappearance just before this has made us extremely worried.”
According to family sources, notices were sent to about 30 voters in Amit Kumar Mandal's block for the hearing. This process is scheduled to begin on Saturday, and the BLO's role is considered crucial. His disappearance just before the hearing has also increased the administration's concern.
The family has filed a missing person's complaint at Katwa police station. The police have launched an investigation and are exploring various possible angles.
Katwa Sub-Divisional Officer Anirban Bose said, “We have received information about this incident. Further action will be taken after discussions with the family and the police.”
Currently, the mysterious disappearance of Amit Kumar Mandal has created tension and fueled various speculations in the area.
