Goalpara (Assam), 24 December (HS):

Police arrested a drug peddler from the Simlitola area of Goalpara district in connection with a narcotics trafficking case. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a targeted operation and apprehended the accused from the area, officials said on Thursday.

The arrested person has been identified as Jahangir Alam, a resident of the Baghmara Char (riverine) area. During the search, police recovered 14.95 grams of drugs packed in 11 small plastic vials from his possession.

In addition, the police also seized 30 banned narcotic tablets from the accused. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway, with the accused being subjected to intensive interrogation, police added.---------------
