Lucknow, 21 Dec (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief
Minister Yogi Adityanath accused past state administrations of destroying the
cooperative sector on Sunday, claiming that the BJP-led administration has
resurrected it and is now pursuing the notion of one cooperative bank per
district. Addressing the 'Yuva Sahakar Sammelan' here, the Chief Minister
stated that district cooperative banks were in extremely terrible shape before
to 2017. The Reserve Bank of India deemed sixteen banks to be in default and
terminated their licenses. These banks are now in good health, benefiting not
just their members but also farmers. He said that previous governments
supported a one-district, one-mafia ethos, resulting in the collapse of the
cooperative sector and the capture of farmers' money.
The BJP administration progressively recovered
Rs 4,700 crore deposited by farmers in 16 banks with revoked licenses. He said
that the banks are now operationally sound. The government is working to
develop cooperatives, emphasizing their importance in fostering trust, social
capacity, and self-sufficiency. The chief minister also noted measures like as
digitization, e-governance, and open policies as ways to guarantee sector
responsibility. Adityanath advocated for efficient staff
allocation in cooperative societies that handle fertilisers, chemicals, and
pesticides, claiming that such steps would increase farmer involvement.
