Chennai, 21 December (H.S.) : A major job fair organized in Avadi on Saturday has brought significant hope to thousands of unemployed youth, with over two hundred thirty companies participating to fill fifteen thousand vacancies.

The event was a collaborative effort between the Avadi City Municipal Corporation and the District Employment and Career Guidance Centre. Major industry players from various sectors, including automobile giants like TVS, Yamaha, and Tata, as well as public sector units, set up stalls to recruit candidates from the city and surrounding regions.

According to official reports, approximately four thousand job seekers registered for the event offline, representing a diverse range of educational backgrounds from engineering graduates to diploma holders. Candidates were given the opportunity to attend multiple interviews based on their qualifications.

Many attendees expressed relief at the chance for face to face interactions with recruiters, especially those whose career prospects were hampered by the pandemic or lack of campus placements. One technical support role aspirant mentioned that after years of unsuccessful online applications, the fair provided a much needed direct connection with potential employers.

Assistant Director of Employment and Career Guidance A Vijaya stated that the overwhelming turnout exceeded initial expectations, prompting plans for similar fairs across the district in the future. To ensure fairness, candidates selected by one firm were restricted from attending further interviews, allowing others more opportunities.

Avadi Corporation Commissioner R Saranya noted that the civic body had invited fifty colleges to participate. She also highlighted the corporation’s ongoing efforts to support students through a free knowledge center in Paruthipattu, where many individuals prepare for various competitive examinations.
